Funding Priorities
The Maynard Cultural Council supports community cultural projects through its two grant programs. It awards grants to local organizations that adhere to the Massachusetts Cultural Council Guidelines as well as our local Maynard Guidelines. Local and regional artists and arts organizations are eligible to apply for grants. The Council, appointed by the selectmen, places priority on new initiatives and gives preference to artists and events that benefit Maynard. The Council award grants for ticket subsidies for school groups to attend cultural events. (formerly called PASS grants, this type of award is now called a “field trip grant” ) The Maynard Cultural Council is a non-profit organization.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) is the governing organization from which funds are derived and its mission is “to promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and to contribute to the economic vitality of our communities.” The Commonwealth has guidelines to which the local communities must adhere. Maynard’s guidelines are additional to the Commonwealth’s.
Individuals and organizations may apply for partial funding for presentations that feature workshops, lectures, performances, exhibitions, festivals, science education, music and the arts. The Council also encourages local artists who have not had an opportunity to present their work in the community to develop ideas for consideration that would result in the possibility of their being given a stipend, i.e. music students performing for local audiences.
