Melrose Cultural Council

The Melrose Cultural Council is committed to supporting programs with public benefit that promote excellence, education, cultural diversity, inclusion, and racial equity to foster a rich and vibrant cultural life in Melrose. Priority is given to applications from Melrose organizations, individuals, and organizers. We encourage and wish to support programs across all arts disciplines the visual arts, music, humanities, drama, public art, murals, installations, and interpretive sciences. We encourage first time applicants. Requests for feedback are welcome before applying. Melrose Cultural Council will also entertain funding proposals from schools and youth groups. Our goal is to provide financial support to a variety of projects that collectively appeal to the diverse population and cultures of our community reaching adults of all ages, youth, children, families and seniors. The Melrose Cultural Council welcomes applications from a variety of identities inclusive of race, gender expression, gender identity, sexual identity, ability, religion, age, education, national origin, citizenship, and ethnicity.

FY24 Local Priorities

Our priority is to support programs with public benefit that embody excellence, education, cultural diversity, inclusion, and racial equity to foster a vibrant cultural life in Melrose. Priority is given to applications from Melrose organizations, individuals, and organizers. We encourage and wish to support programs across all arts disciplines – visual arts, music, theater, dance, writing; projects in the humanities, history, local culture, and interpretive sciences. We encourage projects that are presented in a variety of accessible settings, including outdoors. We also prioritize projects that encourage community building, social engagement, and dialog. Our goal is to provide financial support to a variety of projects that collectively appeal to the diverse population and cultures of our community – reaching adults of all ages, youth, children, families, and seniors. We encourage first time applicants. We welcome inquiries for feedback before applying. Local Requirements: Applicants must hold the scheduled event during the upcoming calendar year (January 1-December 31, 2024) at a local venue; Out-of-city artists/presenters are encouraged to provide proof of planning, including a letter from the local host organization confirming the date and location of the project. Due to limited funding, the Melrose Cultural Council grants only partial funds for a project. Programs must have additional sources of funding. Funds are given on a direct grant basis. Applicants need to ensure venues and locations are ADA compliant. We do not accept requests for capital expenditures, individual scholarships, refreshments, or multi-year repeating programs. Individuals and organizers are encouraged to apply for grants that support cultural activities with public benefit in the community. These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Melrose – including exhibits, festivals, performances, short-term artist residencies in schools, workshops, lectures, and public art and installations.
