Funding Priorities
The WCC gathers input from community members every three years and creates annual priorities based on this input.
2013 Priority Fields of Interest include
- Dance
- Environmental, both local and global
- Literature and Poetry
- Music: Instrumental and Voice
- Programs specifically by and for adolescents and young adults.
Applications for quality programs in other areas of the Arts, Humanities and Interpretive Sciences are most welcome. We strongly encourage applicants to apply even if their project does not fall into one of these categories. Ultimately, a project is judged on its merit and community benefit.
Local Guidelines
Eligibilty
Applicants can be: a) individuals: creative and performing artists or any community member with an idea for a program or a project; b) an incorporated nonprofit organization; c) community organizations including, but not limited to, schools, social services organizations, civic groups, neighborhood centers, youth, senior and family associations, etc.
Incorporated organizations must be nonprofit; unincorporated associations must have a nonprofit purpose. Individual applicants are required to be residents for at least one year; organizations must be organized and operating in the state for at least one year.
Organizations seeking to fund scholarships must describe the review process used to award scholarships and the public benefit component in which scholarship recipients "give back" to the community in the form of a lecture, master class, exhibition or performance.
Review Criteria
Applications are evaluated using several review criteria:
Creative merit; community benefit / involvement; project design; qualifications and track record of the individuals and organizations involved; and physical accessibility of any facilities being used.
Applicants must have the support of a local venue in order to be considered.
Wellfleet-based applicants are given preference over those from out of town; Outer Cape and Cape Cod applicants are given preference over off-Cape applicants.
Applicants who do not rely on the council as their sole source of funding will be given priority over those who depend on the council to fully fund their project.
To provide cultural opportunities to the year-round residents of Wellfleet we give preference to projects presented in the non-summer months. However, each year we continue to award several grants for summer programs to include seasonal residents and visitors.
Proposals from schools and organizations must not request support for activities that should be, or used to be, part of the municipal budget (i.e., teacher salaries, classroom supplies, school-sponsored clubs and organizations, library books, audio or video materials, etc.). Enrichment projects utilizing outside professionals are allowed.
Application Process
We prefer that all applications be typed. To preserve our resources we ask that applicants send eight (8) copies of the application along with the original, and one set of supporting materials such as: resume(s) of key personnel, organizational brochures, letters of support, venue commitment, artists samples (video, audio, slides, writings, portfolio, etc.). Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of supporting materials.
When filling out the application, answer questions clearly, simply and as completely as space allows. If necessary, use an additional page to complete questions. Describe the project and plans to present it to the public. Indicate how many people this might benefit and if it is a targeted audience, i.e. young adults, seniors, students, etc.
The budget is divided into Project Expenses and Revenue (income). These must be equal. You must include in-kind donations, that is, services, materials or facilities which are provided at no cash cost to you. If you are applying to more than one LCC you must list the others.
Completed applications must be received by hand at the Wellfleet Town Clerk’s office by Monday, October 15 before 4PM or be postmarked on or before Monday, October 15 and mailed to the Wellfleet Cultural Council, PO Box 652, Wellfleet, MA 02667.
