2016 GRANT RECIPIENTS

The Discovery Museums Especially for Me - This program serves families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired, or have an autism spectrum disorder by making museum visits easier and more rewarding. November 2015 - October 2016

Ed the Wizard Reading is Magic - Geared towards young children, this engaging 45 minute interactive magic performance emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining reading skills. Ed the Wizard and his young volunteers, perform feats of magic that are frequently found in children's magic books. October 2016 (specific date TBD) Weston Public Library

Elyse O'Connor - Musical visits with seniors - Elyse O'Connor and Duane Sullivan will perform six programs for residents of Sunrise Weston, Epoch Healthcare, Epoch Nursing and Rehab, and Epoch Senior Living. Throughout 2016

Land's Sake - Open Farmyard - This free weekly program for children, ages 3-12 years, includes a range of hands-on activities in the garden and with farm animals to introduce key concepts of agriculture and natural ecological systems. June - September 2016

League of Women Voters - 8th Annual Civics Bee – A competition between the towns of Weston, Wayland, and Sudbury. Each town is represented be a team of three High School students, three Middle School students, and three adults, competing to answer questions about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, voting and politics. - March 6, 2016 - Weston Community Center

Regis College - Meaning and Mask-Making A mask-making event for school age students which is based on an exhibit of masks from Papua New Guinea. The exhibit, has been curated by students in the Museum Studies Practicum and Meaning and Mask-Making will be lead by the Regis College students. April 2016

The Umbrella Community Arts Center - African Artistry: Exploring Diverse Cultures - Partnering with local and regional cultural organizations including Crocodile River Music and South Sudanese Enrichment for Families, a festival and pre-festival event to increase the awareness and understanding of African cultures. February 4 and June 18, 2016

Weston Drama Workshop - Design and construction of the carriage and horses for the Roger & Hammerstein's production of Cinderella. Weston Drama Workshop's season is June 6 - July 24, 2016 Regis College

Weston High School's Asian Student Union Asia Night - Chinese Folk Arts Workshop - The Chinese Folk Arts Workshop (CFAW) hosts an evening for students, K-12, and their families, teachers, and other community members. An exciting variety of folk arts and crafts including Chinese calligraphy, creating clay figurines, kite making, and lantern making will be the focus of the hands-on workshops and there will be an awe inspiring folk dance, martial arts, and Chinese Diablo (yo-yo) performance that features Chinese-American youth from the Greater Boston area. Weston High School Chorus/Community Chorus - Performance of Durante Magnificat - The High School Chorus, Community Chorus, and student instrumentalists will perform with the addition of professional soloists and professional musicians. February 3, 2016 - Regis College

Weston High School Theatre/MA Educational Theater Guild - Massachusetts Theater Celebration - This offshoot of the annual Massachusetts High School Drama Festival, will feature eight regional high schools, each performing one-act plays. This non-competitive event will allow students interested in acting, directing, and technical theater to see the works performed by their peers from other towns as well as gain valuable comments provided by an oral adjudication by seasoned METG professionals. March 12, 2016

Weston High School World Languages Department - - Weston High School Foreign Language Week A week-long event where high school students will showcase their knowledge of a world language by presenting their work, engaging in cultural activities, sampling food provided by families or local businesses, and attend visiting speaker lectures, that will build their skill set or allow them to put it on display. March 7 - 11, 2016
