Hingham Cultural Council

The Hingham Cultural Council is a group of volunteers who are appointed by the Select Board. Our mission is to support cultural events for the benefit of Hingham’s citizens. Our Council encourages enterprising and innovative programs — in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences — that can best add to the quality of life of our residents using our limited funds. Ideally, these activities expose a range of audiences to fresh, stimulating and culturally enriching experiences. All grants are reimbursement-based, following the public funding guidelines of the Mass Cultural Council’s annual LCC allocation. Learn more about Hingham’s Cultural Council from the town’s website and our Facebook page.

FY24 Allocation

$8,200

FY24 Local Priorities

The Cultural Council’s goal is to raise awareness of — and encourage individuals, groups and organizations to apply for — the available funding toward presenting programs that will benefit Hingham. We must also ensure that Hingham’s share of funds from the Mass Cultural Council are administered fairly and equitably in the best interests of our local populace.

LOCAL GUIDELINES & PRIORITIES:
• All grant applications must benefit the community, and promote the arts, humanities or interpretive sciences.
• All grant applicants must have a local sponsor, expected date(s) and/or venue.
• Priorities include arts and cultural events held within Hingham and neighboring towns, or by Hingham residents or groups that showcase them, to benefit Hingham citizens.

FY24 Local Guidelines

FY24 Grant Applications will be accepted ON-LINE from SEPTEMBER 1st — OCTOBER 17th 2023 at https://massculturalcouncil.smartsimple.com/ Next, Councilors will review each application, and later meet publicly to discuss the merits of each request and the vote on distribution of available funds, often before the Thanksgiving holiday. The ‘denial’ notifications are automatically generated from the SmartSimple system immediately following the Voting Meeting.

Ideally, ‘approval’ notices will also go out from the SmartSimple system in ~2 weeks after the Voting Meeting, followed by the “Approval Letter” e-mailed from the Council’s Gmail account — hinghamculturalcouncil@gmail.com — typically by mid-December. Please read the “Approval Letter” e-mail thoroughly, as it will clearly state the Grant amount, any stipulation(s) as to how the funds may be used, how to handle any changes or extensions and the deadline for reimbursement. Councilors appreciate notice of when sponsored events are scheduled, so they can update their calendars :>D

Since the Mass Cultural Council’s LCC Grant Cycle is on-line (as of 09/2021), reimbursement paperwork for all grants awarded by HCC must also be submitted electronically, to hinghamculturalcouncil@gmail.com. Please use this Gmail address for any and all correspondence.

For timely reimbursement, please include: 1) the latest Reimbursement Form .PDF (attached to your Approval Letter email or from https://massculturalcouncil.org/documents/lccreim.pdf); 2) copy of invoices, receipts, paid bills, etc.; 3) a sample of a program, news clippings, press releases, photos, programs, social media, etc. acknowledging Cultural Council financial support — “This program is supported in part by a grant from the (name of local cultural council[s]), a local agency[ies] which is[are] supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.” — as stipulated at https://massculturalcouncil.org/about/contracts/lcc-credit-and-publicity-kit/); 4) a W-9 form (https://www.macomptroller.org/wp-content/uploads/form_w-9.pdf); Town Accounting needs a W-9 on-file to verify the Tax Payer ID of any payee of town funds.
